The North Springs Varsity Volleyball Team won their Regional Championship on Wednesday by a score of two sets to none against Villa Rica. New Head Coach Major Todd Powers has really helped the team to turn a corner, earning Coach of the Year Honors in doing so. Led by Player of the Year, Sydni Sikes and fellow first team all-region player, Paige Chuma, North Springs had a solid 9-4 record. With second team all-conference players Khairi Morrow and Gigi Villacci and honorable mentions Isabella and Rafaella De Souza and Gizelle Davis, the Spartans went an undefeated 7-0 in conference and carried that momentum from the successful, condensed season into the regional tournament. Senior Meghan Malone, who plays on the team, said of the team this season that, “We just click and we work well. We don’t give up when we’re playing.” She also said that the team has really surpassed its preseason expectations.
Malone added that this team was different than those of her previous three years in that they really bonded as a family. This undoubtedly played a role in the Spartans’ success. Once they reached the title game, North Springs was able to grab the trophy after a 25-23, 25-21 victory. Next up for the Spartans is the state playoffs tonight, October 20th.
