NSHS- Friday 4/3 Update

Good morning parents,

This is Scott Hanson, Principal of North Springs High School with a quick update for Friday, 4/3.

Spring Break eve has officially arrived, and not a moment too soon. Student lessons today will focus on Social Studies. Your students should have received their invite to the lessons in whatever platform they have been using. A side note, students are not expected to have any work during Spring Break. The only exception to this will be for students who are working on Edgenuity or other credit recovery options that they need to complete. This is important, especially for our seniors as failure to do this could prevent you for graduating on time.

With the break, please do not forget to complete your 2020 Census form. This is an important process for our country as it allocates resources to our community based on the population that is here. Every person counts, and it is important to make sure that everyone is counted. Forms have been mailed, and you can also visit Census 2020 for more information.

Ms. Ferris and our PBIS committee have created a North Springs Spirit Week this week before the break.  Tweet/Post/Share a picture each day of yourself, of groups of your students and use #SpartanSpiritWeek and #WeArePROS on social media.

With the prolonged school closure due to Covid-19, we want to remind our students and families about the Text-4- Help program. During these extended breaks, students who need assistance loose that connection with school personnel that can help them navigate difficult circumstances. Text 4 Help is that resource for our students that is available year round. Please take advantage of it if you are struggling emotionally during this time.

As we enter Spring Break, I know this is a time for concern for our parents and students about locating the necessities in order to make it through the next week. I am so proud of how our community has come together to make sure that our students and their family’s needs are being met. I have included several resources that are available to our families in the body of this email, and as an attachment.

The district has a food distribution program for families in need of nutritional support. Effective Monday, March 23rd, Fulton County Schools will provide an opportunity for families to pick up meals at 23 school sites around Fulton County on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ison Springs Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary and Sandy Springs Middle are all local distribution sites here in Sandy Springs. Please see the attachment to learn more about this program and all the locations around Fulton County.

North Springs families needing help with groceries during the COVID-19 school shutdown crisis can visit Samad Mediterranean Grill between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm daily except Sunday. Samad is located at 8897 Roswell Road in the same shopping center as Stars and Strikes. The SSCMS PTO is providing free groceries to families of students in Sandy Springs schools (SSCMS, Woodland, Ison Springs, Spalding Drive, Dunwoody Springs, and NSHS). Donations may also be droppe d off between 11-3. Email sscmspto@gmail.com for more information or visit Samad between 11 am – 3 pm Monday – Saturday. 11 Alive News featured this effort from our community on Tuesday. https://www.11alive.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/sandy-springs-food-pantry-community-effort/85-93be9bea-6fd7-4cf0-ba27-ae6ed5b61bed

If you need help with your tablet, the district has a Help Hotline setup by calling 470-254-2300. The hotline is open from 9:00 to 3:30 each day.

All email services through BlackBoard have been re-enabled. Everyone should be receiving emails that I am sending out daily right now. If you are not receiving these emails, please check your Junk/Spam folders. If you don’t see it, please let us know.

Please have a wonderful Spring Break. I know this is a trying time for us all, and this break couldn’t come at a better time. Please practice safe social distancing as prescribed by the state government and the CDC. We want to see everyone back on Monday, April 13th, virtually of course.

Scott Hanson
