North Springs Junior Wins Fourth in State for Annual Georgia Rotary/Laws of Life Essay Contest

Congratulations to NSHS Junior Wade Chappel, and his teacher Mr. Boehnlein. Wade has won fourth in state for his essay for the 2019-2020 Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest!

Wade Chappel, a Junior at North Springs, has won fourth in state for his essay for the 2019-2020 Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest! His teacher is Mr. Boenline. Congrats, Wade!

Wade’s essay was one of hundreds written by North Springs students by 11th graders for its annual Laws of Life writing assignment. His essay was selected along with 11 others for submission to the state contest. Like all school winners, he will also receive a monetary reward.

From the Georgia Rotary Club Press Release: The Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest is pleased to announce the 2019-2020 Winners!

State Winner ($1,000 award): Cindy Huynh, Brookwood High School, 11th Grade
1st Runner-Up ($750 award): Savannah Johnson, Lafayette High School, 11th Grade
2nd Runner-Up ($500 award): Faith Fitzgerald, Thomasville High School 9th Grade
3rd Runner-Up ($300 award): Reagan Beach, North Cobb High School, 12th Grade
4th Runner-Up ($200 award): Wade Chappell, North Springs Charter HS, 10th Grade
5th Runner-Up ($100 award): Hyuk Lee, Lambert High School, 12th Grade
George A. Stewart Jr. Character in Action Award ($1,000): Sha’niya Rogers, Westover High School, 9th Grade

We are also pleased to announce this year’s Teacher Award recipients:

English teacher of the State Winner ($100): Mr. Dana Kling, Brookwood HS
English teacher of the George A. Stewart ($100): Mr. Tye Beck, Westover HS

100% student participation ($100 each):    Deerfield-Windsor School

Teacher honoraria to School Contest Chairs with +25% student participation:
52 School Contest Chairs will receive a $100 honorarium
16 Teachers of Distinction with +85% student participation

In total the 2019-2020 Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest

  • Had 43,506 essays written by Georgia students
  • from 72 partner high schools with 59 partner Rotary Clubs
  • is awarding $20,900 in student and teacher awards
  • to 170 student winners and 52 teachers

During this time of social distancing let’s spread the inspiring stories and uplifting spirit of the student essayists. We invite you to share your winning students’ essays via video! Videos will be posted to the Georgia Laws of Life Facebook and Instagram pages. Instructions for video submission are attached. We look forward to flooding the internet and hope that each school will participate!

Please congratulate every student who wrote their Law of Life essay; each are commended for their effort and story. All are inspiring, meaningful and heartwarming to their family, friends, classmates and volunteer judges.  
In closing a few things of note: 

• The 2018-2019 Essay Brochure will be available in print and downloadable from our website in late April.   
• PowerPoint slides for congratulating each State Winner is attached
• A customizable press release is attached

• Last and certainly not least, checks for students and teachers will be mailed in approximately 4-6 weeks.
