Good morning parents,
This is Scott Hanson, Principal of North Springs High School with information for Thursday April 2nd.
Yesterday Governor Kemp announced that all public schools in Georgia would be closed for the remainder of the year. I think in the back of everyone’s mind this was always a distinct possibility given the continued growth of the Covid-19 virus, but yesterday still came as very shocking news. I am beyond sad for what this means for our students, especially our seniors. Once upon a time, the most sobering experience in my educational career was witnessing 4 hurricanes come through Central Florida over 4 weeks in 2004. The closing of our schools for the rest of the year ratchets that up several degrees. What I saw afterwards from our students and community after 2004 was exciting and something to be proud of. I know it may not feel like that now, but I do promise things will get better.
For the next two months until the school year ends, we will be using TeleSchool as the instructional delivery model for content. While it has a place in helping our students to continue to learn, it is by no means a substitute for the experiences our students had on campus daily. It cannot make up for missed VPA performances, it cannot make up for missed athletic events, and of course can never make up for the missed social experiences like Prom. I know there are many questions that everyone has, and right now I know I do not have all of the answers. With the rapidity of the decision yesterday, we are now going to have to shift our attentions to our next plans for how to end the school year. Things such as graduation, textbook and tablet return, refunds and even how to clean lockers become logistical hurdles to be solved. I will not know those answers for a while, so I would please ask for your patience while we “figure this out”.
Fulton County Schools (FCS) has scheduled the next Virtual Board Meeting this Thursday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m. You can access the meeting on our website: http://www.fultonschools.org. The community is invited to attend via livestream.
School board meetings can be watched live on FCSTV Comcast Channel 24, AT&T Ch. 99, and Google Fiber TV Ch. 145 or from a computer using this link and will be streamed live on the FCS TV website.
With that, there are now two days left until Spring Break. We need it now. Student lessons this week will follow the same pattern as before, with Thursday being devoted to science. Your students should have received their invite to the lessons in whatever platform they have been using.
Ms. Ferris and our PBIS committee have created a North Springs Spirit Week this week before the break. Tweet/Post/Share a picture each day of yourself, of groups of your students and use #SpartanSpiritWeek and #WeArePROS on social media.
Thursday- Sports jersey/shirt day. I will be proudly wearing my Florida Gators shirt today….what will you have on to support your favorite team?
Friday-School spirit day

Counselors are available for help with college apps and scholarships. Please reach out to them if you need help.
With the prolonged school closure due to Covid-19, we want to remind our students and families about the Text-4- Help program. During these extended breaks, students who need assistance loose that connection with school personnel that can help them navigate difficult circumstances. Text 4 Help is that resource for our students that is available year round. Please take advantage of it if you are struggling emotionally during this time.
The district has a food distribution program for families in need of nutritional support. Effective Monday, March 23rd, Fulton County Schools will provide an opportunity for families to pick up meals at 23 school sites around Fulton County on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ison Springs Elementary, Lake Forest Elementary and Sandy Springs Middle are all local distribution sites here in Sandy Springs. Please see the attachment to learn more about this program and all the locations around Fulton County.

If you need help with your tablet, the district has a Help Hotline setup by calling 470-254-2300. The hotline is open from 9:00 to 3:30 each day.
