In order to help out North Springs, all you have to do is Smile. Friends of North Springs, an organization formed to align and fund needed support for our school’s building, staff, and student body, is now involved with the AmazonSmile organization.
AmazonSmile is a way to raise money for the school just by shopping online. All that is needed is an Amazon account. Instead of going to amazon.com to shop, if you go to smile.amazon.com, 0.5% of your purchase (not including shipping and handling, gift wrapping, taxes, or service charges) will go to the FONS organization if you designate it as your intended recipient.
This partnership will bring great things to North Springs. “We anticipate the AmazonSmile funds supporting school needs like classroom projectors that work and the teacher grants that generally improve the classroom and the experience that students have academically at NSCHS,” said Sandra Jewell, President of Friends Of North Springs.
Students feel very positive about the projected outcomes of the AmazonSmile partnership. “Working classroom projectors would be awesome,” says sophomore Caitlin Elgin, “Half my teachers can’t even use their projectors. Those little white dots are really disruptive to the learning environment.”
AmazonSmile is not the only project FONS is organizing for the 2014-15 school year. Another major project is the Brick Project, in which any individual or group can purchase a personalized brick to be placed in the new plaza around the flagpole in the front of the school. “The brick could create a legacy for departing students, recognition of outstanding sports or academics, or recognition of a favorite teacher,” said Jewell.
Some FONS fundraisers are targeted towards specific parts of the school. Throughout the school year they will be raising money for the Media Center through the United Way campaign. Any parent or relative who works for a company that has a United Way campaign can designate FONS as a community partner.
